Great news for Caribbean travellers
and travel enthusiasts!

Seaborne Airlines just added Antigua & Barbuda to their available destinations.

This absolutely beautiful country isn't called the Land of 365 Beaches for nothing!

Since the completion of the new V.C. Bird International Airport, which is currently the most modern airport in the Eastern Caribbean, plans by Antigua & Barbuda tourism officials to increase air-landings have taken off and now they're coming home to land.

The inaugural flight to Antigua was a 34 seat Saab 340 aircraft, which took off from its hub at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday 13th December and landed safely in Antigua at 2:20 p.m.

The icing on this very delicious cake is the codeshare agreement between Seaborne Airlines and JetBlue that would allow passengers to travel from any JetBlue serviced area in the United States to Antigua with one-ticket, one check-in and the security of reliable baggage transfer and service.

As it becomes easier to access the hidden gems of the Caribbean, there are less reasons not to experience 'the Greatest Destination on Earth'

Trinidad's Historical Treasures: The Magnificent Seven

Trinidad is known for many things. Intoxicating soca rhythms, their annual Carnival that is like none other, unique local cuisine, a growing film industry and a diverse historical heritage.

Though once very beautiful, their obvious place as masterpieces of a by-gone time notwithstanding, the structures have been allowed to fall into some decay. Many of the buildings lay abandoned and in need of serious re-modelling and renovating.

However, those that are still in constant use, such as Queen's Royal College and Archbishop's House, are in immaculate conditions and echo the lost luster of their neighbors.

St. Kitts still Battle Ready

7:00 am Caribbean Traveller 0 Comments

It's one of St. Kitts' most popular attractions!

Brimstone Hill Fortress, which was built and intermittently developed from the 1690s to the 1790s, is a testament to the battle between the British and the French for rule over the island.

This battle fortress is a major historical landmark on many tours of St. Kitts and is a destination that does not disappoint. It boosts a picturesque view of the entire West coast of the island from it's northern most point down to the southern peninsula.

On a clear day, neighboring islands can be viewed in the distance.

Getting Around in the Caribbean

7:00 am Caribbean Traveller 0 Comments

The best way to explore anywhere new is to have your own means of transportation so you can get out and make your own adventures. However, concerns such as cost and the unfamiliar tend to hold back the timid traveller from making that leap.

A rental may be expensive but the memories will be invaluable.

Many of the best spots are best experienced via private transport and the best times of the day for pictures are often outside of regular tour hours.

If you can, make the investment your future self will thank you for.

Worried about traversing unfamiliar roads? No longer a problem.

Make the most of your precious holiday time.

What Bites in the Caribbean

2:56 pm Caribbean Traveller 0 Comments

The Caribbean is synonymous with many things, one thing at the top of the list would be our unique regional cuisine.

The flavor profiles and, quite often, the cooking methods are like none other.

Caribbean style cooking is celebrated internationally for the evident influences of a richly mixed culture, use of fresh tropical ingredients and a whole lot of love that goes into the recipes.

The traveling foodie or the simply curious palate can indulge in contemporary representations of traditional or popular dishes by taking in one of the many food festivals hosted by some of your favorite Caribbean destinations.

Magic at Moonhole

The Moonhole is an abandoned hotel on the island of Bequia; one of the Grenadine islands of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

Ruins of Moonhole, Bequia, owned by the Johnson family

Bequia is well known to the avid traveller for its luxurious and eco-friendly accommodations. In the past, Moonhole was no exception. It's just one of many stone homes characteristic to the island but this one was built  in the 1960s directly into the cliffside beneath a naturally occurring stone arch and named 'Moonhole' because the setting moon would sometimes shine through the volcanic rock archway.

The resort had large open rooms with a view of the sea. It was constructed using whale bones, local hardwood and other objects recovered from the sea to give the property a rustic and culturally relevant charm. In the early years there was not even a road to Moonhole. Fresh fruit and freshly baked bread was walked in daily from Paget Farm.

volcanic, resort, moonhole, bequia, saint, vincent, caribbean, hotel, abandoned, photography
Moonhole at sunset with volcanic rock arch in the foreground.

Over time, rocks falling away from the archway made occupancy unsafe and the property has laid abandoned for many years. Trespassing and entry are forbidden but the place still draws interest from visitors and locals alike.

Add a sense of wonder to your vacation.

Re-Discover The Nature Isle

11:38 am Caribbean Traveller 0 Comments

Calling all nature lovers and adventure travellers!
The Nature Isle of the Caribbean
is waiting for you.

In a press release from the Discover Dominica Authority, as of October 5th 2015,
many of Dominica's hiking trails have been re-opened following the extensive damage
Tropical Storm Erika caused to the island in August of this year.

The Caribbean's Longest Walking Trail

At least seven segments of the Waitukubuli National Trail have been made safe and accessible for the adventurous nature traveller to explore. The Forestry Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has done commendable work in clearing segments three, four, six, eleven, twelve, thirteen and fourteen, which opens 81 kilometers (50 miles) to local and visiting hikers.

Other popular attractions which involve some level of hiking are now accessible and operational.

These include: Trafalgar Falls, Emerald Pool, L’Escalier Tete Chien, Middleham Falls, Freshwater Lake, Cabrits National Park and Syndicate Nature Trail.

The trek to the famous Boiling Lake--a level 4 (difficult) hike across towering mountain ranges, hot streams, hot boiling mud, mini geysers and forests--is open and considered a “must do” for the trekking enthusiast

* Trail users are advised to exercise caution on all paths and guides are recommended as there are landscape changes on certain trails.  Hikers are encouraged to use appropriate hiking gear when trekking in Dominica.

** The Forestry Division continues to assess the island’s hiking trails and will provide updates once assessments have been made and necessary repairs have been completed.
